Gestalt′ psychol′ogy, 
  1. Psychology(sometimes l.c.) the theory or doctrine that physiological or psychological phenomena do not occur through the summation of individual elements, as reflexes or sensations, but through gestalts functioning separately or interrelatedly. Also called configurationism.
